Pet fountain tools

Two small tools that run entirely in your browser and use the filter intervals manufacturers publish: one works out what filters cost you per year, the other builds a cleaning and filter-change schedule you can print or add to a calendar.

What the tools do

The cost calculator turns a manufacturer's filter interval into filters and packs per year, then multiplies by a price that you type. We never show a store price, so you stay in control of the number.

The cleaning schedule takes your fountain, the number of pets and the type of water, and lists when to top up, rinse, clean and replace parts. The filter interval is the manufacturer's where our database has it. Everything else is general guidance, and the tool says so on each row.

Where the numbers come from

Intervals come from the same database as our filter finder and the replacement interval table: manufacturer pages and manuals, each with a source link and a checked date. Nothing you enter leaves your device. If your model is missing, pick the generic option and enter the figures from your manual.

Which tool should you use?

Use the cost calculator when you are comparing fountains before buying, or when you want to know what a year of filters will really add to the budget. A fountain with a cheap pack but a two-week interval can cost more to run than one with a pricier pack that lasts a month, and the calculator makes that visible in a few seconds.

Use the cleaning schedule once you own a fountain. It is aimed at the owner who keeps meaning to clean it but forgets when it was last done. Download the calendar file once and the reminders repeat for a year, or print the page and keep it near the fountain.

Limits worth knowing

Both tools follow the manufacturer, and manufacturers vary. Some publish a single interval, some a range, and some say only that it depends on the number of pets. Where a maker gives no figure we leave the field open instead of inventing one. Neither tool is veterinary advice: if your pet drinks much more or much less than usual, ask your vet, whatever the schedule says. The tools also do not know the condition of your own fountain, so cloudy water, a smell or a weak flow is always a reason to clean early.
