PETLIBRO fountain troubleshooting
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. How this works.
Most PETLIBRO Dockstream problems trace back to the rotor shaft, the filter or the water sensor, because there is no pump in the water. Check power and the switch, clean the rotor and shaft, replace the filter, and recalibrate the sensor in the app if the low-water alert appears with a full tank.
On this page
PETLIBRO publishes model FAQs for most of its fountain problems, and our records follow those pages. Each fix below is paraphrased from the source linked under it. We have not run these fountains ourselves, so treat the steps as PETLIBRO's guidance rather than our verified results.
Dockstream versus Stainless Steel: which troubleshooting applies?
The two PETLIBRO designs fail in different places. The Dockstream models (Dockstream, Dockstream 2 cordless and plug-in, Dockstream RFID) use a motor in the base that turns a rotor inside the tank. There is no pump to jam, but the thin rotor shaft collects film and hair. The Stainless Steel Fountain has a conventional submersible pump (part PL-FF013-01W), so general advice on noisy pumps applies. Our PETLIBRO issue records so far cover the Dockstream 2, both cordless and plug-in; for other models, use the PETLIBRO help center.
Symptom guide for PETLIBRO fountains
- Low-water alert with a full tank: this is the sensor, not the water. Recalibrate it in the app. Background on the symptom is on the low-water light page.
- Fountain not running or stopping and starting: power first, then the switch, then the rotor shaft.
- Leaking: wait to see if the tank itself leaks, then rule out the filter and spout.
- Noise: shaft, water level, filter tray and a level surface. See also noisy pump.
- Weak flow: filter and debris.
- Rust spots on the stainless tray: a baking soda cleaning, covered under dirty water and film.
What the records say
Each entry is a cause with steps, a replacement note where one exists, and its source. All six are from PETLIBRO's own FAQ pages.
Keeping a Dockstream out of trouble
Four of the six records end with the same two actions: replace the filter about every two weeks, and clean the rotor and shaft gently, brushing the shaft only lightly because it is thin. Households with several pets are told to do both more often. The PETLIBRO filters page has the filter part codes, and the brand page has the model line-up. If a step does not help, PETLIBRO's support center is the next stop.
Known issues and fixes
Water sensor needs calibrating (low-water alert with a full tank, or flow that stops and starts)
- Press and hold the fountain in the Petlibro app and unbind it.
- Reset the fountain and add it to the app again.
- When the app starts the calibration, lift the tank off the base and clear everything off the base.
- Make sure the base sits on a flat, stable surface, confirm in the app and finish the calibration.

Power problem, switch off or a dirty rotor shaft
- Try the original cord and adapter on another outlet or device to rule out a power fault.
- If no indicator lights glow, turn on the power switch.
- Take off the rotor cover and check that the shaft inside the tank is clean.
- Refill the tank, put the rotor back and turn it gently with a finger to see if the fountain starts.
- Clean the rotor and shaft and swap the filters about every two weeks, brushing the thin shaft only lightly.

Leak from the tank, a clogged filter or spout, or drips from the pet
- Dry the whole fountain, fill the tank, set it on a dry flat surface off the base and wait an hour to see whether the tank itself leaks.
- Move the fountain out of your pet's reach for a while; water dripping from fur or whiskers can look like a leak.
- Remove the filter and spout and run it again to see whether overflow stops.
- Replace the filters and clean the pump about every two weeks (more often with several pets).

Dirty rotor shaft, low water, clogged filter tray or an unlevel base
- Remove the rotor cover and inspect the shaft, cleaning it gently.
- Fill the tank to the maximum line.
- Replace the filter and clear hair or food from the filter tray so water drains normally instead of dripping onto the surface.
- Stand the fountain on a flat, stable surface so water does not fall straight from the outlet and splash.

Clogged filter, debris build-up or dirty pump
- Replace the filter; the maker recommends every two weeks for one pet and more often for several.
- Soak and rinse the new filter for about five minutes before fitting it.
- Clean the pump area and remove trapped hair or debris.
When to replace a part: Flow stays weak after a fresh filter and a full clean.

Rust spots on the stainless steel tray from food salt, grease and moisture
- Mix one tablespoon of baking soda into two cups of water.
- Rub the paste-like mixture onto the spots with a soft cloth.
- Rinse well; for stubborn marks use a stainless cleaner that is safe for pet products.

FAQ
Why does my Dockstream 2 say low water when the tank is full?
PETLIBRO says the water sensor may need calibrating. Unbind and reset the fountain in the app, add it again, and when calibration starts lift the tank off a clear base standing on a flat surface.
Why is my PETLIBRO fountain not running?
PETLIBRO lists a power fault, the power switch being off, or a dirty rotor shaft. Try the original adapter on another outlet, turn the switch on, then check that the shaft in the tank is clean.
Does a Dockstream have a pump to replace?
The Dockstream line is described as pumpless: a motor in the base spins a rotor in the tank. The Stainless Steel Fountain is different and has a replaceable pump.
How often should the filter be changed?
PETLIBRO says about every two weeks for one pet and more often for several. A clogged filter is one of the documented causes of weak flow, noise and overflow.
