The deciding row is material. PawsPik has two ceramic fountains and a 6.8 L dog fountain next to its stainless models, while PETLIBRO offers stainless or plastic with an app on three of its five models. Both brands have cordless models, and both state a filter change interval, though PawsPik gives a range.

What separates the two catalogs?

Look first at the Bowl and Body rows. PETLIBRO has stainless steel and plastic, and PawsPik has stainless steel, ceramic and mixed bodies. That is the main reason to choose between them, ahead of any pump or app feature. The stainless, ceramic and plastic guide goes through what each material means for cleaning.

Do they differ on capacity and power?

Yes. PETLIBRO spans 2.5 to 3 L, PawsPik 2.2 to 6.8 L. On power, PETLIBRO offers battery and AC adapter, PawsPik USB plus battery and AC adapter. Three of PawsPik's five models can run cordless. Only one PawsPik model states a battery capacity, at 4000 mAh. PawsPik's runtime claims of 60 and 80 days are from its product pages and cannot be set against PETLIBRO's figures on equal terms.

Filters and known issues

PETLIBRO's filter interval is two weeks. PawsPik says two to four weeks, depending on the model and whether the manual or the product page is used. PawsPik's own filters are sold per model, so match the name to your fountain. Our PawsPik issues are two: a pump that ran dry with too little water, and soap left on the filter, which hurts flow. PETLIBRO has more entries, mostly for the Dockstream 2.

Which one should you choose?

Choose PETLIBRO if…

  • You want an app. Three of the five PETLIBRO models are app-connected, and our PawsPik records show none.
  • A wireless pump is what you are after, since four of PETLIBRO's models use one and every PawsPik model is submersible.
  • You want a published 5000 to 5200 mAh battery on a cordless model. PawsPik states a battery figure for only one of its five.
  • You have cats or cats and a small dog and the 3 L size suits you.

Choose PawsPik if…

  • You prefer ceramic. The Serenity and CeramiFlow are listed with ceramic bowls and bodies, and the manual lists them for cats and small dogs.
  • You have a larger dog. The PawsPik dog fountain is listed at 6.8 L, from a maker figure of 1.8 US gallons.
  • You want a bigger cordless option: PawsPik lists a 4 L stainless model that runs on USB plus battery.
  • You can work with the data gap on noise and battery: PawsPik states 25 dB where given, but not for every model, and several cordless models have no battery size listed.
