Quiet cat water fountains, by claimed noise
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. How this works.
No one has a neutral way to compare fountain noise from a product page, so we only use two things makers actually put on record: a stated decibel figure, or a pump design that has no submerged motor. The eight models below state a figure between 20 and 26 dB, and four of them also use a wireless or pumpless design.

We did not handle these fountains ourselves: every figure above is the manufacturer's own claim, linked to its source. How we research.
How we choose "quiet" fountains
Fountain noise is hard to compare. Makers measure it differently or not at all, so one 25 dB claim may not be the same as another. We therefore apply a rule that only uses information the maker has published:
- The fountain is listed for cats and is a current model.
- The manufacturer states a decibel figure of 26 dB or less in its own materials. Pump design is shown alongside as context, but a wireless or pumpless design alone does not qualify a model.
- The source is linked in the table with the check date.
Many models in our database state a figure. The ones below are among the lowest claims, with at most two per product family so one brand does not fill the page. We list the number as a claim, never as a result. We did not measure anything, and we do not treat the order of the dB numbers as a ranking for the same reason.
Models with no decibel figure are left out, even if their marketing says "whisper-quiet". The PetSafe Seascape is one example: the maker uses that phrase without a number.
What the numbers mean
A decibel scale is logarithmic, so the gap between 20 and 26 dB is larger than it looks. Even so, the pump is not the only noise source in a fountain. Water falling a few centimetres into a bowl makes a trickling sound, and a hard-surfaced bowl or a table can amplify it. In practice a quiet claim describes the pump in isolation, and your room adds the rest.
Three designs show up in the table:
- Submersible pumps sit in the reservoir. These are the most common and the easiest to replace, and they are the type that can start to buzz when water is low or the impeller is dirty.
- Wireless (inductive) pumps, as in the PETKIT models, put the motor outside the water chamber. The maker's pitch is no cable in the water, which also removes one wear point.
- Pumpless rotor designs, like PETLIBRO's Dockstream 2, spin a rotor in the tank from a motor in the base.
Note that the two Oneisall models with the lowest claim are submersible, so pump type alone does not predict the number.
Where a quiet fountain helps
Light sleepers who keep the fountain in a bedroom or a small apartment hear it most. A heavier base, a rubber mat under the fountain and a full tank all help keep a pump from rattling against a hard floor. If the bowl is steel or ceramic, the sound of falling water can bounce off it, so a full reservoir and a lower flow setting can help more than the choice of model.
Keep it quiet over time
Most noise complaints come from upkeep, not from the original figure. A fountain drawing air because the tank is low, or an impeller clogged with hair, produces a hum that no decibel claim covers. Check the water level, rinse the pump area on the maker's schedule, and change the filter when the maker says to. The noisy pump page shows the causes in order, and the cleaning guide has the full steps.
If you want fewer parts to maintain
If there is no outlet near the spot you have in mind, the cordless and battery page covers battery models. If your priority is a steel surface, the stainless steel page lists models with a noise claim as well.

FAQ
What is the quietest cat water fountain?
On paper, the two Oneisall cordless models, because they claim 20 dB. We cannot rank them against 23 to 26 dB claims from other makers with confidence, since the conditions behind each figure are not published.
Is 20 dB actually silent?
It is a very low figure, but a manufacturer's number is not a promise about your room. Water falling into a bowl makes sound regardless of the pump, and that part is not included in most claims.
Does a pumpless fountain mean no noise?
No. A pumpless design, like the one in the PETLIBRO Dockstream line, moves the sound source from a submerged impeller to a motor in the base. That removes the submerged pump, but the falling stream still makes noise.
Why is my fountain suddenly louder?
Low water, a dirty impeller or trapped air are common causes. Our noisy pump fix page goes through them in order.
