Stainless steel cat water fountains compared

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. How this works.

The most useful split among stainless steel cat fountains is how much of the unit is actually steel. Some are steel from reservoir to bowl, others add a steel top or tray to a plastic body, so read the bowl and body columns before the marketing copy. After that, choose by capacity per cat and by whether you need a cord.

We did not handle these fountains ourselves: every figure above is the manufacturer's own claim, linked to its source. How we research.

Three common fountain bowl materials: stainless steel, ceramic and plastic, with a one-line trait for each
Bowl materials at a glance.

How we chose these models

The selection rule is simple and published: the surface the water touches or the bowl is stainless steel according to the manufacturer, the fountain is listed for cats, it is a current model, and we have a manufacturer source for every figure. Eight models from seven brands pass. We did not handle any of them; every number in the table is the maker's own claim and each row links the page it came from, with the date we last checked it.

Where a spec is missing, the table shows a dash. That means the maker did not state it on the pages we read, not that the value is zero.

What to look for in a stainless steel cat fountain

Check how much of it is steel

The table has two material columns on purpose. "Bowl / tray" is the surface your cat drinks from. "Body" is the reservoir. A fountain such as the Catit Stainless Steel Flower has a steel cover over a plastic body, while the PETLIBRO stainless model and the Pioneer Pet Raindrop list steel for both. Neither is wrong, but if your reason for choosing steel is that you want to avoid plastic in contact with water, the body column matters as much as the bowl column.

Match capacity to the number of cats

Capacities here run from 1.8 L to 4.0 L. A single cat can live with the smaller reservoirs if you top them up every day or two. With two or more cats, the 3.0 to 4.0 L units give you more days between refills, and our large and multi-cat page covers that in detail. A bigger reservoir also gives you more margin before the water gets low, which several makers guard against with low-water alerts or pump shut-off.

Decide on power before material

Most steel models in this list use an adapter or USB. Three, the Oneisall PW14, the PawsPik 4 L and the PETKIT Max 2, run on a battery as well. The cordless options are covered on the cordless and battery page, with a diagram of the trade-off. If your cat's spot has no outlet, settle that first and then narrow by material.

Pump type changes how you clean it

Submersible pumps sit in the reservoir and need a periodic rinse of the impeller. The PETLIBRO Dockstream 2 and the PETKIT model use a wireless design, where the motor sits outside the water. That removes the cable-in-water part, though you still wash the tank, tray and filter holder. Our cleaning guide walks through the steps.

Filters and upkeep

Six of the eight list a replacement filter in our data. Intervals in the table come from the manufacturers and range from two to four weeks where one is stated; the rest are dashes. If a noisy pump or low-water alarm shows up later, the fix pages cover the likely causes by symptom.

Who should skip steel

If you want the lightest unit, or the lowest cost of entry, plastic will usually be lighter and simpler, though we do not compare cost on this site. If you like a heavier, more stable base that a cat cannot easily nudge, ceramic is the other material to look at on our ceramic fountains page.

Who each model suits

PETLIBRO Stainless Steel Fountain

Good fit: A steel reservoir and steel bowl in one body, with a claimed noise level of 30 dB or below and a maker-listed dishwasher-safe water tank.

Skip it if: Anyone who wants a cordless unit; it runs from an adapter.

PETLIBRO Dockstream 2 Smart Fountain (plug-in)

Good fit: A steel water tray over a wireless (pumpless) motor design, so there is no pump sitting in the water, with a 23 dB claim.

Skip it if: Households that prefer a plain submersible pump they can replace on its own.

Catit Stainless Steel Flower Fountain

Good fit: Cats that already like the Flower style: a steel top cover on a 3.0 L plastic body with three flow settings.

Skip it if: Anyone who wants steel on every surface; the reservoir is plastic.

Pioneer Pet Raindrop Stainless Steel 60 oz

Good fit: A small all-steel unit at 1.8 L for a single cat, with a bowl the maker lists as dishwasher-safe.

Skip it if: Multi-cat homes; 1.8 L runs low quickly.

PetSafe Drinkwell Stainless Steel Multi-Pet (360) Fountain

Good fit: A larger all-steel fountain (3.8 L) with an open round design, five interchangeable spouts and a carbon-plus-foam filter pair.

Skip it if: Cat owners who need a stated noise figure; the maker does not publish one.

Oneisall PW14 3.2L Cordless (Hale)

Good fit: A steel-bowl fountain with a 4000 mAh battery and a 20 dB claim, for places without a nearby outlet.

Skip it if: Anyone who does not want to keep a battery charged.

PawsPik Stainless Steel Battery 4L

Good fit: The largest steel fountain in this list at 4.0 L, with a dual power option and a stainless reservoir.

Skip it if: Buyers who want a stated battery size or a named replacement filter; neither is listed in our data.

PETKIT EverSweet Max 2 (UVC)

Good fit: A steel tray with a UVC module, a wireless pump and five parts the maker lists as dishwasher-safe.

Skip it if: Anyone who wants a stainless body; the tank is plastic.

FAQ

Is a stainless steel fountain better than plastic for cats?

Steel is non-porous and does not scratch as easily as plastic, so it is usually quicker to wipe clean. That is a practical advantage, not a guarantee of cleaner water: any fountain still needs regular washing and filter changes.

Are stainless steel cat fountains quiet?

Noise depends mostly on the pump design, not the metal. In our table only makers that state a decibel figure show one, and those figures were not measured under a shared method. See the quiet cat fountains page for how we handle that.

Can stainless steel fountains go in the dishwasher?

Only the parts a maker names. The table shows the parts each manufacturer calls dishwasher-safe, and a dash means the maker did not say. Pumps and electronics are never on those lists.

Do stainless steel fountains still need a filter?

Most listed models use a filter, and the filter column shows the part code the maker specifies. Replacement timing is on our filter pages.
